Week 1 of camp is over

It's Saturday night and I'm posting about the fact that it is the end of camp.  Yeah, I should be going out with friends and having a drink, or visiting some folks back in Daegu. I almost forgot it was Saturday until a few of our classes had already gone by this morning.  Having some really good kids makes the day go by.  Actually, having to correct the bad ones makes the day go by even faster.  It's amazing that in both of my classes the girls are super good, and the boys, well the boys are boys.

We did decide in today's class that we would sing a song from Mama Mia (the girls and one of the boys knew the song right away), and Little Mermaid ("Under the Sea").  The boys really had no input on the situation.  Three of the six boys really have no clue as to what is even going on in the class to start.  Before the camp started the students were given an assessment to take online to determine what classes that would be in.  Well, it turns out that a few students had their parents help them, because some of my boys have no IDEA what I am saying at all.  I made the mistake of speaking Korean a few times to them, so the slow ones try to converse with me in Korean instead.  That's the negative of being a foreign teacher that knows the language -- slow ones try to think they can take advantage of me easier.

I got to eat one of my favorite Korean meals.  Hopefully, that digestive tract of mine is getting back to normal.  Honestly, it's hard to tell because my stomach kind of feels like it is being over-worked at the moment.  I'm gonna blame that Korean style cafeteria food.  Tonight's dinner with the other teachers was Dalk Galbi -- a famous spicy chicken dish -- (pictures coming soon).

I missed last night's big staff meal due to a little nosebleed.  As I was getting cleaned up, and preparing to leave the gym, blood just started gushing out of my nose (in the shower, of course).  So I battled, and battled, and a few minutes later everything was back to normal.  The battle seemed to have not lasted as long as I give it credit for though.  Once I left the gym, the bus I wanted to get on was passing by me.  A little bit later I took a taxi down to the market where we were meeting, only to find out later that I had missed everyone by about three minutes.  Luckily, my American co-workers brought back the birthday cake and some beverages to partake in as a night-cap.

Savannah, who hails from Baltimore celebrated her birthday here yesterday.  Her boyfriend Zachary brought a cool cake from Baskin Robbins.  The cakes here are amazing -- works of art in all the sense for such a low, low price.  Anyway, my melatonin is kicking in at the moment, so I'm going to call it a night.  I have to be at the old house in Daegu for breakfast in the morning, and then I will visit my young cadets who I have definitely missed over the last six months.  Everyone have a good Saturday, and remember to cheer on the Saints today.
