January 8, 2020 - A Waterfall Wednesday

Sometimes the middle of the week can be tough for us. One week we might be under the weather.  Then again the weather might be dictating our commute to work or school. Another week, we might be bombarded at work with extra tasks.  There is always something standing in our way of getting to those precious days that start with S. So, we will go with a theme for each Wednesday.  Water always seems to refresh us, whether we are swimming in it, walking by it, admiring the way it falls from hundreds of feet above, or just having a cool glass of it.

Located off Hwy 135 about 12 miles south of Cookeville and I-40 is Burgess Falls State Park, home to four waterfalls, the namesake pictured here. This thing of beauty flows down about 135 feet from the Falling Water River (how appropriate) into the gorge below. At one time visitors were able to visit base of the falls. Hopefully the damage will one day be repaired.  You can view all four waterfalls while taking a somewhat strenuous, but short 1.75 mile round trip hike. You will definitely appreciate this wonderful piece of creation that you are rewarded with during your hike.

Anytime you are traveling east of Nashville, I highly recommend taking a detour to this park. There are not very many waterfalls that are as close to the interstate as this one. You get to drive down beautiful country road for about 15-20 minutes and then you find yourself admiring four waterfalls in one park in a walk that takes less than an hour. Be sure to put this one on your list.
