So Joe and I got up early today and we were out of the hotel by 8:05 this morning. . . We had a little tour along the countryside of Hoi An, which was quite the experience.
This was took us down all kinds of narrow roads and showed you just how easy we other folks have it in life. We explored countless rice paddies, watched men build wooden boats from scratch, and watched Vietnamese artists designing anything and everything with Mahogany wood and mother of Pearl.
We rode bikes along some not so sturdy wooden or stone bridges that made things real exciting. A girl in our group from Australia actually fell of her bike and into the water where a shrimp farm is located. We also learned about "basket boats", hand woven sleeping mats, shrimp mats, and watched how the Vietnamese folks make bricks, and that's something that really makes you appreciate hard work. Toward the end we ate a nice traditional Vietnamese lunch, and even toured a traditional home as well.
Afterwards we went back to the tailor shops to pick up some things that Joe had custom made, as well as some scarves that I picked out yesterday too. Our dinner may have been the best one we have had on our own here in Hoi An. I'm definitely gonna miss this place, but I am pretty sure I'll make it back here sometime in the near future. Hoi An is a city that is one of a kind. Great people, great food, and of course the countryside is very close by you.
