February 3, 2020- Monday Motivation - Mighty Mississippi Part 2 (Tom Lee Park area)

This was one of those Mondays. One of those rare Mondays where you just wish you could have had your computer, your mighty to-do list, and a good 'ole park bench. Oh yeah, a phone for the mobile hot spot, a few snacks, a good book, the camera, and most importantly, the day off from work. This was a beautiful day from start to finish. It actually was a pretty decent day indoors as well.

In the Winter time the sun has usually set before I close things down at work around 6 pm. Today I thought about a Monday back in early Fall when the dogs and I took a visit to Tom Lee Park and walked along the banks of "Old Man River", after work one evening.

I love walking along this park on weekday evenings. You can find folks playing volleyball, running, walking, riding a bike, and even those goofy little scooters that you can rent. I am knocking the whole scooter deal and you are correct, I have not ridden on one just yet. I do not see the need, but never say never. Tom Lee Park is perfect a cool, breezy evening when the sun is setting. Especially on a Monday. The week is just getting started and the weather is great outside. Every now and then you might even catch an ice cream truck or a snow cone stand down there.

Tom Lee Park, like Shelby Farms, brings folks from all walks of life. It is a good way to see just how diverse the city we live in actually is. Everyone seems happy, most folks are very friendly, and honestly it is a good reflection of our city. You get can see boats out on the river, barges passing through, and of course our wonderful United States Coast Guard patrolling the area. There is also a little bit of history with the Tom Lee Monument, that gives park visitors a little insight into the event that gave the park its name.

Throughout my many adventures here, I have seen many tourists stopping and posing for pictures. It might be a picture in front of the river, a picture of one of our bridges, or perhaps the Mississippi Queen Riverboat. Either way it is a beautiful spot that many folks really do appreciate. One of these days I will make it there for a sunrise with tripod and camera ready to roll. I highly recommend you take a friend, loved one, or even a newbie to the area down to Tom Lee Park to watch the beautiful painted skies at sunset over the Mississippi River.

All of these pictures above pretty much speak for themselves. Happy Monday to you!
