February 5th, 2020 - Waterfall Wednesday - Ozone Falls

Ozone Falls

Happy Waterfall Wednesday!

So if you are ever traveling towards Knoxville, or at least east on I-40 past Nashville, there is a spot that I highly recommend you stop and see. All you have to do is get off at exit 329 and head about four or five miles towards Crab Orchard. No, it's not an orchard that has a bunch of crabs that you can eat, weirdos! It is a small town located on the Cumberland Plateau. It is also home to Ozone Falls State Natural Area.

Ozone Falls is a 110 foot waterfall that plunges down into a gorge along Fall Creek. This waterfall really is located right off of the road. You can take a short walk around the parking area to the top of the creek to see where the water falls down below, to capture one side of the spectacle. You can also venture down a steep 1/4 mile adventure and take in the beauty of Ozone Falls. So beautiful, that even the movie the Jungle Book was filmed here. I do apologize in advance at the poor photography on this day. I was more interested in going for a swim under the waterfall than I was taking cool shots of the waterfall.

I will definitely be coming back to Ozone Falls in Summer. Every year the kiddos coach on the Blues City Runners Track Club always have a regional track meet in Knoxville. Makes it easy for fun planning once the track meet is over. I do recommend you bring some swimming clothes with you if you feel like taking a not so big plunge in the pool below Ozone Falls.  At least feel the waterfall from below by walking around the cave area, or just sitting with your feet in the water. This little spot is super underrated in my opinion. Go see for yourself next time you are heading towards Knoxville or the Cumberland Plateau. You will be glad you did.

It is definitely fun to stand behind a waterfall and take it all in
